Before Surgery

Preparing Your Recovery Space

2025-02-03 · 5 min read

Your recovery location should require as little movement as possible. Before surgery, walk the path from your bed to the bathroom and remove everything in it: rugs, cords, low furniture, pet bowls. Add a night light.

Set up your resting position in advance. Facelift and neck clients need firm elevation. Abdominoplasty and mommy makeover clients do better in a recliner or with a wedge and knee pillow that keeps a slight bend. Buying this after surgery is too late.

Build a bedside station within arm's reach: water with a straw, lip balm, tissues, phone charger, medications in a labeled organizer, a small notebook for drain output and medication times, and hand sanitizer.

Protect your surfaces. Liposuction and drain clients leak fluid in the first 24–72 hours. Waterproof mattress protectors, dark towels and disposable pads save your linens and your peace of mind.

Lastly, plan the quiet. Decide in advance who is visiting and when, and let someone else be the gatekeeper. Rest is not a luxury in the first week — it is part of the treatment.
