Typical recovery
Drains 5–10 days; bent-forward walking for the first week; 4–6 weeks of restrictions.
Recommended post-operative care
- 24-hour nursing for the first 48–72 hours — strongly recommended
- Drain output logging and abdominal binder management
- Assisted transfers, walking and repositioning
- Overnight care through the first week
- Home assistance with children, meals and household needs
- Transportation to all early appointments and lymphatic massage
What we watch for
- No lifting of children until surgeon clearance
- Walking short distances hourly is usually encouraged to reduce clot risk
- A recliner or wedge setup is strongly advised
