Making the Most of Your Procedure With Excellent After-Surgery Care
BPO is South Florida’s premier plastic surgery recovery service for all your post-surgical needs. Combining expert post plastic surgery medical services with our compassionate nurses, we’re here to pamper you and provide tranquil, confidential post-surgical care.
BPO nurses assess and manage all aspects of recovery: pain management, emptying drains, changing wound dressings, applying cold packs and compression garments, and acting as a liaison with the surgeon to update prescriptions and care instructions, as necessary etc.
With skilled experienced postop nurses after surgery care is taken care of precisely as the doctor ordered.
There’s an underlying comfort in being home with loved ones and maintaining your normal lifestyle. Hiring a private nurse to ensure high-quality medical care while maintaining privacy yields ideal results all around.
The best way to come out of surgery is with a support system in place. With a BPO nurse by your side to follow the surgeon’s instructions and ready to make changes to the recovery plan, you can rest assured that you’re on the path to a successful recovery!
What To Expect
You've just had surgery, now what?
Prepare
The more time you spend preparing for your recovery, the better it will be. My patients who show up on the morning of surgery having prepared for a great recovery get just that. A few of my pre-surgery steps: Plan what food will fuel your recovery; have a range of options so you will be successful and not default to pizza; have a spot in your bedroom where all your dressing and drain care will be handled (I call this area a ‘clean space’); lay down a small clean towel and organize everything; and have your nightstand prepared with the things you may want within reach. Don’t forget a straw, lip balm, your post-op instructions and phone chargers.
How To Avoid Complications and Speed Up Recovery
*Stop smoking
Stop smoking 3–4 weeks prior to your surgery and afterward. Smoking causes a lack of oxygen, which prevents blood flow to the wound site and can lead to major complications.
*Improve your diet
Do not underestimate the power of healthy eating pre-and-post-surgery. Good nutrition is critical to successful wound healing and can actually speed up your recovery.
I can help you get a meal plan together. Simple things, such as ample amounts of protein, good carbohydrates, plenty of water, and vitamins, such as vitamin C, vitamin B complex, zinc, and collagen all help the healing process.
*Refrain from exercising
Do not exercise until the doctor releases you to do so. Once you are given the go-ahead to exercise, ease back into it. Do not over-exercise once you are released to exercise. Your body has gone through a lot and needs time to heal.
